SMART SOLUTIONS TO PREVENT INFECTIONS

Logo green vertical.png

PROBLEM

Sepsis is an immunological response to a generalized infection, and is responsible for 25% of ICU occupation in Brazil. It is the main cause of death in ICUs and one of the main causes of late hospital mortality, overcoming myocardial infarction and cancer, reaching 65% of cases.

BEHAVIOR

Adherence to WHO's 5 hand hygiene steps is low. Studies have shown rates of up to 40% of healthcare professionals adhering to hygiene, before performing procedures with patients

SIDE EFFECT

The average rate of nosocomial infection in ICUs is 5% to 15%, resulting in a cost of R$ 1.5 billion per year. The average length of hospital stay in patients with nosocomial infection ends up rising from 3 to 9 days, increasing medical expenses and opportunity costs.

Intelligent infection prevention system

The eye.follow system tracks the interactions of professionals with the patient and the eye.wash system evaluates the hand washing procedure, identifying each movement and providing visual feedback. In parallel, the systems learn at each new interaction and collect statistical data for the clinic or hospital management to take corrective actions.

APPLICATIONS

Aplicacoes
COVID-severity-hero.jpg

Hospitals

Inadequate hand hygiene can result in infections precisely in patients already weakened and hospitalized. Hand care must be observed in order to reduce infection rates.

Laboratories

From collection to handling of blood and other biological samples, it is highly recommended to thoroughly clean and protect hands and equipment, so that there is no interference from external factors in the analysis of laboratory data.

Kitchens

When preparing meals in restaurants or industrial kitchens, care with hygiene must be respected, under the risk of the proliferation of germs in the food, causing damage to customers and the image of the establishment.

Factories

In factories that produce digital circuits to food and beverages, hygiene care needs to be closely monitored by quality systems, to guarantee the perfection of the final product.

SCIENTIFIC CORROBORATION

[The method] improved hand hygiene compliance in 4
ICUs in 4 hospitals in 3 cities in Brazil, probably contributing to the
HAI rates and mortality rates. It is the INICC's primary objective to foster infection control practices by freely facilitating elemental and inexpensive resourceful tools to tackle this problem effectively and systematically, leading to greater and steady adherence to infection control programs and guidelines (eg, HH compliance) and to the correlated reduction of HAIs and their consequences (eg, mortality, extra cost).
